The other kids say boys shouldn’t cry … but Lubabalo’s best advice comes from a voice inside him.

"In this realistic children's book, the feelings of a seven-year-old boy as main character are excellently portrayed through the engaging word text and dynamic, value-adding illustrations. Various emotions come into play, including family love, friendships at school, also when others do not laugh with you but laugh at you. The main character has an imaginary friend with whom he can talk when he is sad. In his mind, he learns from his imaginary friend that one is allowed to cry, that tears are normal and that feeling better usually follows. This is a sensitive, excellent book about how to make friends with feelings."     ~

"A story with an important message for boys about expressing feelings and allowing oneself to cry. An imaginary friend and a pet help. Colourful, bold illustrations underscore the message. Chracterisation is good." ~ Review by Marj Brown for the IBBY Honour List 2024

Making Friends with Feelings is a compassionate story that teaches boys that it is OK to cry when you are sad and that it is healthy to express your emotions.

Awesome book

I bought this book for my 6 year old. I was nervous that I would not be able to properly translate for her from setswana to english because I don't speak "pure" setswana. I was pleasantly surprised that it is so easy to read and translate, I enjoy reading it so much, I think I may be enjoying it a bit more than she does. My daughter loves it as well, Lesedi is the most intriguing character for her😊
